Andrew Dickinson,
Winner of the Maureen Lehane Vocal Award 2013

It is now only two weeks until application closes for the Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards 2013.

The award, uniquely rewarding potential as well as achievement, has been running since 1992. In that time it has been won by many rising stars such as Christopher Maltman (1994), Andrew Kennedy (1999), Marta Fontanals-Simmons (2011).

With Preliminary Audition Rounds held over the weekend of 18th – 20th September at Jackdaws and London, the final will be held at the Wigmore Hall, London, on Friday 8th November.

We are very lucky to boast a highly respected Judging panel at the awards this year. Comprised of Dame Felicity Lott, Ian Partridge CBE and Malcolm Martineau, the panel will be chaired by Saffron van Zwanenberg, Artistic Director of Jackdaws.

Jackdaws Young Artists and the Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards are very grateful for the generous support of Penelope Davies, Geoffrey & Margaret Batten (Accompanist prize) and Jackdaws Trustees (Audience prize).

All the information you need in order to apply is available to download in an application pack.
Applications can then be made using the following forms submitted by post or email to music@jackdaws.org:

Jack’s – Welcome Back!

Jack’s – Welcome Back!

Jacks Music Club at Jackdaws

Jacks Music Club at Jackdaws

Hi everyone,
It’s my FAVOURITE time of year… September, because as we all know, that’s when Schools go back – YEAH! And that can only mean that Jack’s Music Club is back too.

It’s been an exciting summer here at Jackdaws. Our Summer Production was fantastic – probably our best ever. And the Free Gifted and Talented workshops were a huge success, with lots of children benefiting from the wonderful face to face tuition with world class musicians, absolutely free.

Now that school starts back the fun can begin again. Jack’s starts again next Friday – the spooky Friday 13th September. But don’t worry because all will run as usual despite the spooks; we’ve got awesome tutors and lovely, lovely cake.

The exciting tutors lined up for Jack’s this half term are:
September 13 – Saffron van Zwanenberg; show and tell post summer break
September 20 – Laurie Parnell (Guitar and Mandolin)
September 27 – Kate Luxmoore (Singer/Songwriter/Clarinet)
October 4 – Mark Tanner (Piano)
October 11 – Ralf Dorrell (Jazz double bass)
October 18 – Madeleine Mitchell (Violin)

Wowowow!

Remember that you can find all of this information on the Jackdaws website at any time by going to “Education” and then “Jack’s Music Club”. (Or you can click here!)

We kick off again at the usual time of 4pm, next Friday 13th September with a session from Saffron. She’s going to be introducing you to some theory – watch it transform your playing! I can’t wait…

See you there!
Jack

We were so happy with Madeleine’s first Violin Workshop weekend at Jackdaws in 2012 that we were delighted when she agreed to return for another weekend this October!

Madeleine Mitchell, a highly active concert violinist, has just been performing Bruch Violin Concerto in Edinburgh during the Festival, to an appreciative audience. In September she gives recitals in Paris (based on her popular CD ‘Violin Songs’), followed by 2 in west London – on 18th in the exquisite church St Mary’s Perivale (Franck violin Sonata with Nigel Clayton) and on 23rd, Brahms horn trio (with pianist John Lenehan and the principal horn of BBCSO) at the Bishop Centre, Godolphin and Latymer. On 8th October she gives a recital in Rome, broadcast live by Radio CEMAT and on 16th gives a recital at Leighton House, London for the 75th birthday of Howard Blake OBE, to open Kensington & Chelsea Music Society’s 2013/14 season.

Madeleine’s Violin Workshop weekend at Jackdaws takes place from Friday 18 – Sunday 20 October.

Participants are invited to bring any repertoire, with or without accompaniment, to this Violin weekend course. Madeleine will offer technical and musical guidance in a supportive and friendly atmosphere, working towards an informal concert on Sunday afternoon. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn from Madeleine’s experience as a solo and chamber artist. An accompanist will be available for Saturday evening and on Sunday.
