Marta Fontanals-Simmons appointed as a trustee at Jackdaws Music Education Trust
Jackdaws is delighted to announce that the celebrated international mezzo-soprano, Marta Fontanals-Simmons has agreed to join the board of trustees at Jackdaws.
It is a very special appointment, not only because Marta is from Somerset where Jackdaws is based but also because Marta won first prize in the competition Jackdaws runs, The Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards, in 2011 at the Wigmore Hall while completing her studies at the Guildhall. The vocal awards commemorate the founder of Jackdaws, Maureen Lehane who was herself an eminent mezzo-soprano.

I am delighted to become a Trustee for Jackdaws. It is my great honour and a real pleasure to contribute to Jackdaws and be an ambassador in general.

It has been wonderful to watch Marta’s career continue to flourish after chairing the panel that awarded her first prize in the Vocal Awards 2011. We are so thrilled that she is willing to take up this important post and is supporting Jackdaws in what remains a challenging time for the arts. She will be a great asset, of that I am sure.
