Born in 1770, so 2020 is his 250th anniversary year

PART A – DISCOVER & TAKE PART
Watch these videos and circle the art forms you can spot on your log. Extra brownie points if you can identify some of the instruments you see and list them in the extra spaces.
Video 1 – 5th Symphony played by The All Star Orchestra
Watch at least the first 2 minutes.

Video 2Für Elise played by Lang Lang

Video 3Fidelio quartet
This is from Beethoven’s only opera and is sung in German as he wrote it.
They are all singing about how they feel differently, some in love and some fearing they will not be loved.

Now have go at performing some Beethoven.
This is one of his most famous tunes, Ode to Joy from his 9th Symphony. It is about peace and friendship. We have added some new words.

PART B – FIND OUT

Ludwig van Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven
Stick this picture of Beethoven in your log, or draw your own version and here are some interesting facts about him:
His first name was Ludwig!
He was German.
He composed his first major work when he was 12!
He went deaf when he was 25 but carried on composing until he died when he was just 56.
He was born in 1770, so it is his 250th anniversary this year.
He wrote 9 symphonies (big pieces for orchestra) all of which are still famous today.
Add two things you have found out about Beethoven to your log.
WELL DONE YOU HAVE COMPLETED PART B!

PART C – SHARE
Tell us who you did your performance for and what they thought. Ask them to write a review of your performance on your log.
Can you tell us what you liked best about Beethoven?
Was it his 5th symphony – duh duh duh duuuuhhhhh??
Or maybe it was how he overcame deafness to become the greatest composer in history!
WELL DONE YOU HAVE COMPLETED PART C!

Congratulations! You have completed your Arts Award Discover!!
