Happy Birthday OperaPLUS!

2025 is a very important year in the history of this project. It is the 15th anniversary of the project taking place.

Over the last 15 years thousands of children and young people, mostly in Somerset but also Wiltshire and Devon, have taken part in workshops, rehearsals and performances of operas including the Magic Flute, Cinderella, The Love Potion, Semele, The Stylist of Somerset (aka The Barber of Seville, The Team Mascot (aka the Daughter of the Regiment) and our especially written show, The Rollercoast-Op-er-a.

The performances happened in community venues with local audiences enjoying accessible and high quality opera, often for the first time.

More than 13,000 people have engaged with this project over the years and been enabled to creatively express themselves through this experience.

In 2016 OperaPLUS won an award- Best Classical Music Education Initiative (MT awards sponsored by Classic FM) which we remain very proud of.

Here is an archive of past productions from the very start of the project.

The Red, Blue and Green teams in this year’s production wished Jackdaws OperaPLUS happy birthday before their show!

This year’s project was only possible because of funding from Octagon Hub (the music hub for Somerset & Dorset), Arts Council England with additional funding from the D’Oyly Carte charitable trust and an anonymous donor.

We are hugely grateful to them and to all of the many other funders that have supported this project for the last 15 years.

All of our events are also supported by our Patrons and we are immensely thankful to them.
