The Team Mascot
Last week saw the final performances of this year’s OperaPLUS project: The Team Mascot.
1,000 children and their school staff from 9 schools from the Cheddar and Langport areas took part in workshops and rehearsals.
The Team Mascot is an adaptation of La fille du régiment (The daughter of the regiment) by Donizetti… the story is updated and the setting changed from war to football!
This year workshops with the full team involved some whole schools, increasing access to this fantastic introduction to Opera.
250 children also additionally performed across 4 shows alongside our brilliant professional cast, and a further 500 people watched the shows – with some audience participation as well!
This year’s project was only possible because of funding from Octagon Hub (the music hub for Somerset & Dorset), Arts Council England with additional funding from the D’Oyly Carte charitable trust and an anonymous donor.
We are hugely grateful to them and to all of the many other funders that have supported this project for the last 15 years.
