By making a booking onto any Jackdaws course you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.
1. Course Bookings
A non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your booking for every weekend course you wish to attend.
- For a standard weekend course (Friday to Sunday) this will be £70. For a “Three Day” Weekend Course (Thursday to Sunday) this deposit will be £90.
- The full fee acts as a deposit to secure a place on any “One Day Course”
- No deposit is payable if you are placed on the Waiting List for an event. The deposit becomes payable immediately when you accept a place offered to you.
The final balance (remaining course fee and Bed & Breakfast payment) is due three weeks before the start of the course. We recommend that participants take out suitable insurance, including cancellation protection as no refund of the course fee is possible after the three week final balance date has passed.
Participants under the age of 18 at the time of the course must be accompanied by an adult. The adult must be present at all sessions which involve the young person. The adult attends sessions free of charge but is there only as a supervisor. Meals provided and any Bed & Breakfast requirements remain chargeable.
2. Cancellation Policy
The deposit which confirms your booking is non-refundable; in the event you need to cancel a booking, your deposit is forfeit. Cancellations made within three weeks of the course start date remain liable for the outstanding balance and no refunds are possible after this time.
If for any reason we are unable to run a course and have to cancel, we will let all confirmed attendees know as soon as possible. Your deposit and any balance paid will be refunded or transferred to another course within the same season.
3. Bed & Breakfast
The cost of bed and breakfast is payable in addition to the course fee and includes a booking fee.
Bed & Breakfast Accommodation is bookable through Jackdaws, who will send you details ahead of the course. Rooms will be booked with local Hosts or at commercial hotels, depending on availability.
We ask our participants to respect that where Bed & Breakfast is provided in the homes of local residents, which have been checked to meet our standards, they are granted the freedom to provide a quality service and breakfast menu in a way of their own choosing.
We would be grateful if you would make contact with your B&B hosts in advance to advise them of your anticipated arrival time on the Friday. Hosts will normally expect you to arrive between 4pm and 6pm, before you make your way to Jackdaws for supper, served at 6.30pm.
If you have particular needs, please state these at the time of booking and we will endeavour to accommodate them.
4. Meals & Dietary Requirements
For full weekend courses, lunch and supper and two tea/coffee breaks are provided, on site at Jackdaws and are included in the course fee.
Lunch is provided on One Day Courses.
You are responsible for alerting us to any dietary requirements at the time of booking (e.g. Vegetarian, Vegan, Food Allergies). Our cooks do their best to accommodate all dietary requests but in a small kitchen such as we have, it is not always possible to ensure food is completely free of your particular allergen or intolerance. Please ensure you have any relevant medication with you and alert a member of Jackdaws staff immediately in the event of an allergic reaction.
5. Values and Complaints Procedure
We are an equal opportunities organisation and do everything we can to accommodate participants and tutors requests within reason. Our core values are “inspiration, access, inclusion”, and we therefore ask that people act in a way which reflects this ethos and take note of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy.
Your fellow participants, our staff, premises and instruments and the local environment in and around Great Elm should be treated with respect at all times in line with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy. We reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a place on future courses if this respect is not forthcoming.
Should you have a concern regarding the behaviour of another person during the course of the weekend, please raise with either the course leader or a member of Jackdaws staff on site (Weekend House Manager) if at all possible as it may be easily resolved, or please, see our complaints and concerns policy for further advice.
6. Data
We will not share your data with other parties with the exception of the course tutor and B&B Hosts, where applicable.
7. Feedback
Following your attendance a Jackdaws course you may be emailed an optional feedback form. Your comments are very valuable to us and may be used to improve our service or for promotional purposes.
These Terms and Conditions are effective as of 12 April 2023 (reviewed).
