WHEN?

Wednesdays 5:30–6:30pm

WHERE?

Jackdaws Lehane-Wishart Studio, Great Elm, BA11 3NY

*WHO?

Aimed at Beginners+. No experience needed but if you have played before and would like to get back into it or play in a group then you are also welcome.

*The group is for all school staff: teaching staff in schools working with the children, teachers, TAs, office staff – all welcome. The sessions will be led by amazing local player and teacher, Mary Hooper.

WHY?

We think making music in a group is a wonderful way to build connections and have fun, and can also help support wellbeing and develop confidence and skills that you can take back to school.

The sessions will be informal and relaxed and aimed at enjoyment, with an opportunity for a cuppa and a biscuit before you start so you can chat to peers and build your network.

YES, BUT WHY THE RECORDER??

The recorder is not only a very versatile instrument, it is easy to learn and it actually makes a very beautiful sound when played properly.

There is some wonderful and diverse music arranged for recorder and following on from our recent “Year of Recorder” projects we know that people are very enthusiastic about it when they hear it played with some skill.

WHAT DO I NEED?

Curiosity, enthusiasm and a descant recorder! We have a few we can lend, but we suspect most people have one hidden in a drawer somewhere! They are also a very affordable instrument so if you would like to buy one then we recommend either a yamaha or aulos make.

HOW MUCH?

The pilot term in the summer will be free for any staff member in a maintained/academy school in Somerset or Dorset.

If you work in another setting then there is a cost of £30 for this taster term.
