Singing in French
with Robin Bowman
Explore the joys, insights and rewards of Singing in French. Robin will expertly explain and demonstrate the principles, and maintains that these techniques will improve your general vocal health too. Within the rich treasury of French song are works suitable for all, from beginners to advanced singers.
For thirty-five years Robin Bowman was the principal teacher of French vocal repertoire at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. For many years he worked as assistant and class accompanist in France for the singer Pierre Bernac, the renowned authority on the performance of French song, and the vocal duo partner of Francis Poulenc, for whom Poulenc composed more than half of his songs.
Robin was also for thirty years the French consultant for the National Opera Studio in London and taught for several years on the staff of the Académie Internationale d’Eté de Nice. Many current professional singers from the UK and elsewhere gained their initial introduction to French vocal repertoire under Robin’s guidance.
Participants are invited to prepare 3-4 songs to study over the weekend, at least one of them to perform in the informal concert at the end of the course.
