Pianissimo to Fortissimo

with Evelyn Tubb and Michael Fields

New from 2023 – Now an extended weekend: Thursday to Sunday.

Inspired by Jackdaws’ new studio, Michael Fields and Evelyn Tubb, along with accompanist, Clive Pollard, invite singers to explore vocal dynamics in relationship to context, time and space. There couldn’t be a better setting in which to take advantage of the accompaniments from lute, guitar or piano and the tutors’ wide range of knowledge and experience of repertoire and singing styles.

Singers will be encouraged to test their ‘boundaries’ of dynamic expressiveness, wrapped-up in the essential performance philosophy of singing as story-telling.

Participants should bring 3-5 pieces, covering the period from Elizabeth I to Elizabeth II.

As always wonderful pianist and composer Clive Pollard will be joining Evelyn and Michael for the weekend to support singers from the piano and offer his wealth of wisdom on the repertoire as well.

We asked our course leaders to answer a few questions about their course and teaching:

Evelyn:

  1. More confidence in their singing at whatever level they are at the moment.
  2. Greater understanding of the music and poetry.
  3. Fun meeting others who love to sing.

“I love working with amateur singes because the human voice has the capacity to communicate so much, and brings health and happiness”

“My teaching style Is bespoke to each individual that stands in front of me – Laughter and fun , runs through our courses , from start to finish!”

“My hobbies outside of music are cooking, walking, and swimming”

Michael:

  1. to know they are heard and understood
  2. to feel nurtured and encouraged
  3. to enjoy exploring their voices

“I love working with amateur singes because they are me – at heart. I never stop learning and exploring and am always open to new musical adventures, so it’s easy for me to ‘play’ as equals with their inner children.”

“My teaching style is – Brilliant! The fruit of a lot of experience and wisdom. Relaxed and friendly.”

“My hobby outside of music is cooking and eating.”

Some course feedback:

Evelyn, Michael, and Clive were so friendly and encouraging.

There was a very significant improvement in my singing after spending a week-end at Jackdaws (and increase in confidence/performance).
