Singing the Italian Way

with Owain Browne

Come and discover or renew the joy of singing the Italian Way on this new course with Owain Browne – who has previously led “Discover Your Voice” and “Breathing life into Text”.

Singing Italian is the basis of efficient and strong vocal technique, giving us easier access to a legato line and making our breath work for us. This new course is designed for singers of all levels of experience and confidence to explore the expressive and vocal possibilities of an Italian approach to singing.

Through practical exercises and guided work on text and technique, we’ll uncover how to harness the qualities of Italian diction to enhance vocal ease, projection, and emotional connection, and how to apply what we learn to any repertoire we want to sing.

“Do I need to bring Italian repertoire?”

Absolutely not! The principals of singing in Italian offer us a technical basis for singing in any language. You are welcome to bring any repertoire you like, but if you want suggestions for something new to work on in Italian, please ask!

We asked our course leaders to answer a few questions about their course and teaching:

  1. To share some of the joy I feel from singing Italian Repertoire!
  2. To feel some benefit and increased ease in aspects of their singing and…
  3. To feel empowered to find that ease again in any repertoire they enjoy singing.

“Collaborative and exploratory: it is hard to learn if we feel inhibited to experiment so I hope to encourage an atmosphere of freedom and safety.”

“I am fascinated by the Big Questions of modern physics and philosophy – I also have an alarmingly large collection of Lego Spaceships.”

Some course feedback:

Absolutely brilliant, encouraging, fun and I learned a lot. I will be coming back next year.

I always enjoy any time I spend at Jackdaws and this weekend was no exception.

I am fascinated by Owain’s insight on the voice and its potential…and I like his encouraging attitude, which includes his enthusiasm for all aspects of music and its effect on the human psyche.
