The Art of Practice and Performance

with Phillip Leslie

Prize-winning British pianist and disciple of Margaret Fingerhut & Philip Fowke, two of Jackdaws’ most cherished tutors, presents The Art of Practice and Performance.

Phillip’s course The Art of Practice and Performance aims to address how we practice and how to prepare a work for performance. Having an understanding of our physiology at the keyboard, building your practice toolbox, developing your understanding of the score and building a confident performance are some of the key aspects we will uncover during the course.

Known for his creative, engaging and personable tuition, Phillip will help you find practical and creative solutions to the various pianistic and interpretative challenges in the repertoire and look at the key ingredients to building a performance, addressing the different stages of preparing a work. It will be useful to bring two pieces for this course: a reasonably refined work and something fresher and less studied. There will be plenty of opportunities for wide-ranging group discussion.

Some course feedback:

The studio is a wonderful place to be, and we were very lucky to be able to spend time outdoors in the beautiful surroundings

I always feel much healthier after a spell at Jackdaws!

I can’t imagine there could be a more supportive and encouraging environment for learning…
