It is based around the strong philosophy of Anthony’s best-selling book ‘The Piano Teacher’s Survival Guide’ in which he shows how musical imagination and personal expressive ideas are not ‘add-ons’ to pre-learnt notes, but the essential beating heart and starting point to a vivid and personal range of colours and sounds, to a natural, relaxed technique, and ultimately to a persuasive and compelling performance.
In a series of open masterclasses, Anthony will work with you on your chosen repertoire at any level, helping you to engage with and vividly communicate your performances. He will use these ideas along the way as a theme to explore as a group an in-depth understanding of the principles of musical technique born of sound, imagination, self-awareness and listening rather than repetitive studies and binary exercises. He will encourage everyone to cast off the shackles of inhibition and regime, and instead enjoy being a creative musician, whose practice and performances are guided by inspiration, emotion and insight.
