OperaPLUS — The Stylist of Somerset

OperaPLUS – “The Stylist of Somerset” (aka as the Barber of Seville by Rossini) took place in the Spring term.

10 schools from Frome, Castle Cary, Taunton and Yeovil enjoyed workshops and took part in 4 performances alongside our brilliant professional cast.

The performances featured 450 children performing in front of large, local audiences in community venues.

They all had a blast!

“I’ve got three letters for you (sic) – THAT WAS AMAZING!”

(a young performer in Frome)

“ It wasn’t what I expected at all – I really enjoyed it!

(Audience member)

“My daughter quit for a bit because she didn’t think it was for her – but then she came back and seeing her tonight so confident out there! It’s amazing”

(Parent)

“This was my first opera…and I loved it!!”

(teacher after one of the performances)

The project enabled more music in schools: the children all participated in workshops and performances and learned about many aspects of music as well as performing.

“Many thanks for such an incredible experience for our young People. One that I’m sure they will remember for a long time to come. Thanks again and best wishes”

(Headteacher)

All of the artists took part in training as part of the project and also led workshops as well as performing alongside the children in the performances supporting them to succeed, which helped develop their skills and portfolio.

Large community audiences came to watch the final performances and celebrate the children’s work whilst engaging in what was often a new experience.

“We just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you, on behalf of the children, for such an incredible and unique experience – one that we have no doubt will stay in their memories for a long time to come! It was wonderful working with you all!

Many thanks,
