Women Composers for Piano
Lauretta Bloomer
Friday 20 – Sunday 22 March 2015
Course No. 3129
Level: All
Fee: £190
Solo Study Course
Are you interested in working on your technique and interpretation whilst studying and playing compositions by woman composers? This interesting and enjoyable workshop will draw attention to the wide variety of pieces written by women, a genre undeservedly neglected.
While standard repertoire by male composers may be looked at for stylistic clues, participants are encouraged to bring at least one piece by a female composer to play during the workshop; perhaps something by the wonderfully talented Clara Schumann or Felix Mendelssohn’s beloved sister Fanny Hensel, whom he greatly admired. Other successful women composers are the French ladies Lili Boulanger and Cécile Chaminade or the American Amy Beach. Contemporary options who have written music for piano include Chen Yi, Sally Beamish, Sofia Gubaidulina and Kaija Saariaho.
