Come and spend the day exploring seasonal music from the region’s rich heritage of folk music. Eddie and Philippa from Folk South West will lead you through a gentle day of beautiful music and encourage you to try a new style of singing in a relaxed and friendly way.
Somerset and the South West of England have an exciting and vibrant heritage of Christmas carols including ‘living’ traditions in Padstow (Cornwall), Dunster (Somerset) and Odcombe (Somerset). These carols are characterised by their exciting harmonic and rhythmic structures. They were special to particular communities and were sung by local people, often without accompaniment.
Eddie and Philippa will teach a selection of these songs. You will be given the words and music of the songs but there is no expectation of participants having experience of singing in harmony or of being able to read music.
