Eddie Upton set up Folk South West in 1992 and Philippa Toulson joined the organisation in 2000.
Eddie has a lifelong involvement in folk music, first as a hobby in Sussex in 1964 and then as a full time occupation from 1977. He has performed across Britain and Europe and in North America and from venues ranging from the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall to perhaps the smallest venue on Broadway and a garage forecourt in Surrey.  In 2012 he was awarded the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s Gold Badge for his services to folk music – a rarely awarded accolade whose past holders include Ralph Vaughan Williams and Cecil Sharp.
Philippa joined Folk South West to develop and lead its programme of education and training. She has transformed this work which reaches people of all ages, from the very young to the very old. From 2005 – 2012 she was responsible for directing the children’s programme for the annual Sidmouth FolkWeek in Devon, taking responsibility for some 130 events spread over 6 days. She sings with the Stanchester Quire and is one of the traditional Odcombe Carollers.
