Polishing Your Piano Technique
with Melanie Spanswick
Friday 9 February – Sunday 11 February 2018
Level: All
Fee: £210
Course No. 3267
Solo Study Course
This weekend will focus on many aspects of piano technique and the alleviation of tension, to benefit playing in the context of your chosen repertoire.
Tension can be a real issue for pianists, irrespective of ability; Melanie will consider the reasons for tension and examine ways of alleviating it, and the associated problems, by focusing on the establishment of freedom and relaxation whilst playing. This will be put into practise in sessions at the piano, exploring various useful studies and exercises, and working at repertoire.
Each course member will be given ample opportunity to hone and improve their technique; working at rotational wrist motion, finger independence, and completely free arm movement; encouraging the use of arm weight, with the aim of producing a warm, pleasing tone. Scales, arpeggios, chords, octaves, double note passages and much more, will be evaluated and discussed. Participants are advised to bring two or three contrasting pieces to the workshops, although these do not have to be performance ready.
