Pointers to Sound Style
Course No. 3066
How do we get behind the notes to help understand a composer’s particular characteristics? What clues do we look for when choosing tempo, touch and tone? Are there stylistic restraints on any instinctive expressiveness? Bring two contrasting pieces/movements by one composer or two different composers from a different period. The possibilities are endless!
How can noticing the shape of a piece, its rhythmic, harmonic and melodic structure, make all the difference to our understanding?
Is planning a performance as important as playing it?
Should we ever trust our musical instinct, come what may?
Ruth Harte will Come and recreate your reactions to it all this weekend. There will also be some fun!
