“Aloha” – Hawaiian music for Singers, Ukulele, Guitar, etc.
Michael Fields
Course No. 3081
Level: Intermediate – Advanced
Fee: £180
Michael takes you on a voyage of discovery of music from his birthplace – a perfect way to chase away winter blues. Singers, players of ukulele, guitar, slide guitar (lap steel), acoustic bass and more are all welcome on board. We will journey through a century of music, from Aloha Oe by Queen Liliuokalani (1878) through the popular songs of the 1930s to 60s, to Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s famous version of Somewhere over the Rainbow (1993) – lots of lovely music to get your toes tapping and warm your heart. Anyone who can sing (folk, pop or classical) or knows a few chords on the guitar or ukulele, should feel comfortable with this material. More advanced singers and players will be challenged to sing harmonies or work on solo instrumental pieces. Music will be sent in advance and flower leis are provided on arrival; hula dancers are also welcome!
