Now a freelance oboist, teacher, examiner and reedmaker, Ruth Watson has played with many of this country’s orchestras including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Bournemouth Sinfonietta and London Sinfonietta and spent some years as principal oboe of the Orquestra do Porto in Portugal. Originally from Hampshire, she was principal oboe of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, graduated from York University and gained a Countess of Munster scholarship to study at the Banff Centre of Fine Arts in Canada. Now based in mid Wales, she specialises in chamber music and is Head of Woodwind at Hereford Sixth Form College, ABRSM Diploma examiner and a director of the Marches Oboe School. For the past thirty years she has also been making reeds for student and professional oboists.
