Solo Study Course
Interested in learning folk fiddle? Always wanted to jam but never felt confident enough? This folk fiddle weekend is perfect for violinists (Grade 4 and up) who want to take a leap into an alternative way of playing and engaging with music.
Holly will introduce you to a mixture of beautiful tunes and rip-roaring jigs and reels from all over the British Isles, whilst Flora will take you into the world of improvisation and accompanying on the violin. The weekend will comprise of a mixture of classes and jamming, mostly taught by ear, but with some sheet music to fall back on and take away with you afterwards if you wish. Come with an open mind, a sense of humour and a willingness to take risks!
All courses are held at Jackdaws in the village of Great Elm, a small village to the west of Frome in Somerset, approximately 30 minutes drive from Bath. Frome Train station is just 3 miles from Jackdaws with direct trains from Bristol, Bath, Cardiff and London.
A £50 deposit is required to secure your place on this course.
The Course Fee is inclusive of all meals, refreshments and tuition at Jackdaws, except Breakfast which is included in the separate B&B cost.
Accommodation is payable in addition to the Course Fee. B&B rates start at £39 per night (single room, shared bathroom) and from £49 (en suite, subject to availability) booked through Jackdaws. Please let us know your requirements when booking on a course.
B&B rooms are located in friendly family homes and local Guest Houses, and are either within walking distance or a short drive away (5 – 10 minutes).
Please let us know at the time of booking of any dietary allergies or if you require a vegetarian menu, and we will be happy to accommodate. Meals are lovingly prepared on site by our cooks.
Breakfast is the only meal served at the accommodation; all other meals are provided on site at Jackdaws.
