As we approach one year of our e-Clubs, we are constantly delighted to hear how they have benefitted attendees. We have given a direction to your music making, and a conection to other people through three lockdowns and countless restrictions.
One member of Song club, Bruce Herriot, has written a short piece about what it means to him, and we’re delighted to share it below.
Last September I received an email from Jackdaws advertising their initiative during the Covid pandemic: The Friday morning e-Song Club. I had struggled to get back into singing over the summer and thought that this might be just the thing to get me going again. How right I was and how glad I am that I bravely pressed the zoom link the following Friday morning!
I have met some lovely people who are so supportive and so obviously love singing. I have been introduced to new repertoire, new technology (Appcompanist has revolutionised my home practice!) and I have joined 3 full day workshops organised by enterprising members of the group.
I decided that I needed a clear project for the winter and decided to learn Schumann’s song cycle Dichterliebe. Each week I sing the next song about the poet’s love, which gets sadder with each of the 16 songs. I plan to perform the cycle, with a friend playing the wonderful piano accompaniment, this summer as a charity concert: let’s hope that this will be possible.
