Sophie Rivlin

Sophie Rivlin is a London-based cellist and performer who tours widely across the UK and abroad. Sophie plays regularly with various orchestras, contemporary music groups and chamber ensembles, having performed chamber music internationally at festivals in Finland, Sweden, Portugal, and Palestine.

After studying at Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music, Sophie won the string quartet competition at the Royal College of Music culminating in a scholarship to undertake a specialist Chamber Music Masters Course under the Maggini Quartet and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.

In addition to playing traditional concerts, Sophie has a particular interest presenting chamber music imaginatively to audiences via the means of theatrical concerts. She recently received Arts Council DYCP funding to develop her skills as a stage director and recently directed ‘in Sync’ (a co-production between the Scottish Ensemble and MishMash Productions) alongside Ria Ashcroft. As a founding member of TROUPE she has performed at venues including Wigmore Hall, Snape Maltings and in festivals such as Oxford Lieder and the SESC Festival Música de Câmara in Brazil. Sophie is also musical director for MishMash Productions who she has performed with in shows that have toured to venues including Clywd Theatre, the Big Bang Festival in Dublin and YAM Session 2021 in Norway. She also works with MishMash in their collaborations with other ensembles including the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Sophie greatly enjoys teaching the cello and chamber music to students of all ages, having coached on courses such as Holiday Music, Young Grittleton and for the Choir of London on their bursary scheme.
