The Singer as Artist

with Alison Wells

A singer needs a colour palette as varied as a painter. This course will help you to connect your imagination and understanding of text to underpin and enhance your vocal technique – and vice versa. It’s easy to think of communication and technique as being separate strands of our learning, but getting them to work together is most satisfying and liberating. By doing so, the singer can improve their connection with the audience and better express the intentions of the composer and librettist.

This course is suitable for anyone who has experience of solo singing in front of an audience. Repertoire is free choice of song, opera or oratorio, and the only stipulation is that you must understand, in word for word detail, the text you are singing, especially if it is not in your native language. You may also wish to attend with a fellow singer to work on duets.

Sessions will be informal, with constructive participant feedback encouraged. We may use movement, so wear comfortable clothing. Most importantly – bring an open mind!

A £70 deposit is required to secure your place on this course. The balance of fees, including accommodation, is due 3 weeks before the course start date.
