Piano Workshop - A New Departure
with Philip Fowke
Friday 28 – Sunday 30 April 2017
This Course also runs in September 2017
Course No. 3225
Solo Study Course
After its debut at Jackdaws in May 2016, this revolutionary course was hailed as a radical departure from conventional courses and was received with overwhelming enthusiasm. The result of much feedback from and discussion with, participants over the years, A New Departure is designed for those who feel they have never really discovered how to learn a piece with confidence and security. It also addresses fundamental issues which are so often overlooked in the earlier stages of learning. This course provides a level playing field for all participants, is strictly non-competitive, and is a forum in which all can contribute usefully without pressure, without nerves and above all with pleasure.
Participants should bring no music at all. Instead, a selection of very short pieces, or even just a few bars of an elementary to a modest standard, will be provided in the first session by Philip. Over the weekend, the piece or pieces will be studied, fingered and studied in such a way as to make them ready for performance for the traditional end of course concert on the Sunday afternoon for those who feel willing to volunteer. There is no obligation to play whatsoever.
All courses are held at Jackdaws in the village of Great Elm, a small village to the west of Frome in Somerset, roughly 30 minutes drive from Bath. Frome Train station is roughly 2.5 miles from Jackdaws with direct trains from Bristol, Bath, Cardiff and London.
