Jackdaws Great Elm Vocal Awards

The finals of this year’s competition took place on 14 October at The Wigmore Hall, London.
Twelve young singers competed for the £2,000 First Prize.
It was an extremely enjoyable event and the standard this year was extremely high.
The winners were;
1st Prize (£2,000) Sarah-Jane Lewis
2nd Prize (£1,000) Emily Kenway
3rd Prize ( £500) Hannah Bradbury
Accompanists’ Prize (£750) Craig White
These annual Awards for aspiring young professional singers offer some of the largest prizes in the UK.
The awards have helped to launch the careers of many young singers.
The competition is open to singers aged between twenty-two and thirty years of age inclusive.
Each contestant sing a song or aria by Handel, a song or aria by Peter Wishart and a song or aria of the their own choice.
Details of next year’s competition will be announced in early 2010.
| Sarah-Jane Lewis studied at the Royal College of Music. She recently made her Royal Opera House debut as a Savoyard in Donizetti’s Linda di Chamounix and is currently playing the role of ‘Polar Bear’ in the Premiere of a new piece One Sun, One World by Peter Rose and Anne Conlon. |
