Arts Week in May
In May, for the seventh year, Jackdaws gave an Arts Week to a local school; this year the lucky school was Hayesdown and each day for five days thirty children painted and potted; made giant willow sculptures which were then donated to the school; sang; wrote poetry and painted on glass; the week was called "Maybug Madness" and the theme was the local wildlife.
On the Saturday, the sixth day, parents and local people were invited to come and see the astonishing results of all this activity; thanks to the unstinting efforts of the professional artists--Kate Lynch, Nick Inns, Shaun Jackson, Mary May,Stefan Jennings, Judy Swanson, the youngsters had produced some really good work which they were then able to take home with them.
Other visitors that afternoon were Andrew Edlestone with his most attractive pottery stall; Margaret Banks with an extremely popular plant stall; a bric a brac stall; and a cake stall with mouth watering goodies by Rosemarie Casemore, Judy Duffus and Lucinda Murray; Liz Molony provided a splendid chocolate cake for the raffle; and The Frome Youth Choir, conducted by Alan Burgess, gave a very varied and entertaining programme ranging from early madrigals to folk songs. And the weather was good!
The new Garage Studio
Thanks to the generosity of the Jackdaws trustees and two local Jackdaws supporters, we have been able to turn the calamity of the collapsed garage roof into a triumph; we now have a splendid, extra studio; and the cooks have a large, practical and convenient pantry.

Charities Aid Foundation
The CAF (Charities Aid Foundation) newsletter of September '06 includes a paragraph entitled "The Plight of Small Charities" in which it says--"the big, popular household- name charities are dominating donations."
It then goes on to say---"Much more information is now available to donors--including the ability to search for charities by income on CAF's website, www.cafonline.org- and this should help donors who would like to give more support to small charities.
