Whether working on a miniature or larger scale work, probing behind the notes and rests on the page involves many facets and questions.
Are titles necessary to tickle our imagination or do we, should we, use the dynamic inspiration of poetry (to help a sense of the line and breathing of a phrase), prose (to convey mood and drama) and painting (to sharpen listening awareness of our palette of tone-colours)?

Imagining the musical effect, then choosing the technique for making it, are a fascinating part of practice and preparing to play.

During this weekend, we'll be exploring and discussing some of the infinite possibilities of making our playing "come alive" through relishing what we see and hear in the score. Experimenting and making choices are entirely in our hands.
Come and try things out. It is absorbing and fun to share ideas as well as to confirm self belief! Choose pieces you like and perhaps bring music you wish you liked more, but from contrasting styles. Include if you can part, or all, of a sonata.
