To quote Howard Davis: "I'd like to make the weekend as gregarious as possible - anyone with a passion for the world's second best instrument (we can't complete with Dame Joan et al)".

The course will link and mix technical work with musical expressiveness and style.

Howard Davis is well-known as the leader of the Alberni String Quartet, an ensemble formed at the Royal Academy of Music in 1961 which has since enjoyed a world-wide career. Their travels have taken them from New Zealand to North America, from Chile to China - where they were the first western quartet to tour the country after the Cultural Revolution. Their many recordings cover a wide range of music and have received much critical acclaim.

Howard Davis has also given many recitals and made broadcasts and recordings on the Baroque violin, often in partnership with his wife, the harpsichordist Virginia Black. He is also gaining recognition as a water-colourist and recently held an exhibition at the Three Choirs Festival in Worcester. He is professor of violin and chamber music at the Royal Academy of Music in London and many of his former students occupy prestigious positions in the music profession, as chamber musicians, orchestral leaders and soloists.
