Jackdaws’ weekend music courses are tutored by some of the best performers and teachers in the country. Classes are small, rarely consisting of more than 13 participants, thus enabling a good level of teaching contact.
All courses are clearly labeled to show their level. If it is a while since you played regularly or passed a grade and you are not sure of a course's suitability, please get in touch and we will be happy to recommend the best course for your needs.
Situated in the beautiful Somerset countryside, just outside Frome and some 12 miles from Bath, Jackdaws provides a wonderfully tranquil environment for study. All the courses include lunch and dinner cooked by our highly talented team of cooks, Rosemarie, Alex and Lucinda. They provide a friendly and efficient welcome to our weekends with fantastic home cooked food which they prepare on the premises using only fresh ingredients. Bed and breakfast accommodation, some with en-suite, is available locally.
Bursaries - Some bursaries for students under 25 years of age may be offered.
Please mark your booking form clearly "Bursary Application" enclosing a letter of recommendation.

Summer Courses 2010Course Information This summer sees a few new developments at Jackdaws with the arrival of our Artistic Director Saffron and a few new tutor faces too. Look out for our exciting chamber choir course for all the choral singing fans. There’s a new opera course as well for those aspiring young professionals among us, and we just had to put some Chopin in seeing as it’s his 200th birthday! We are of course delighted to welcome back lots of old friends as well, with the very best the music world has to offer in performers and teachers. There are rarely more than 13 participants on each course so everyone is guaranteed plenty of opportunities, whether it’s perfecting one bar, performing a whole piece or just absorbing the atmosphere that you are after. At Jackdaws we pride ourselves on our relaxed and informal approach in the retreat like setting of the Coach House, on the banks of the beautiful Mells Water. An excellent lunch and supper, sourced largely from local produce, is included, along with tea, coffee and homemade cakes and biscuits. Bed and breakfast accommodation (some with en suite) is available in local, welcoming homes. Unless otherwise stated all courses start with supper at 6.30pm on Friday and finish with tea at 4pm on Sunday . Please note we are changing the way we do things slightly, so regular Jackdawrians will notice that when you sign up to do a course we will ask for your questionnaire regarding repertoire etc to be sent back to us, not to the tutor’s as before. This is just so we can put all the information on one list and give it to the tutor a little nearer the course time, it does not mean that there won’t be the opportunity to chat to the tutor before the course starts, as usual.
