Early promise of a career as a violinist or cellist was abandoned when Sarah discovered the amount of daily practice an instrumentalist must undertake to have a chance of success in that field. Singing held more attractions (too much practice tires the voice!) and now, a legion of operatic roles, countless concerts, an encyclopaedic recital and recording repertoire and a zillion hotel rooms later, she is delighted to hang up her frocks, and enjoy the next generation strutting their stuff. She is immensely proud of her C.B.E. awarded in 1991.
